Designer Roof Truss is a roofing company based in Brakpan, East Rand, Gauteng. We have been designing, manufacturing, supplying and installing roofing systems across South Africa since 2006.
We work with homeowners, contractors, architects and property developers. Our services cover everything from the roof truss itself to the final covering, whether that is tiles, sheet roofing, shingles or exposed architectural trusses. We also have a depot in Hoedspruit for projects in that region.
Every truss is precision engineered to exact specifications. Every engineered truss project comes with a compliance certificate issued at final inspection.

How much does a roof cost in South Africa?
There is no standard price because the cost depends on several factors: the size, the roof style, the effective span, any loadings such as geysers or air conditioners, and the type of roof covering chosen. The only accurate way to get a number is to get a quote based on your specific plans. We provide free quotes and aim to turn them around within 24 hours.
Is a zinc roof cheaper than a tiled roof?
No. In most cases, tiled roofs are around 25% cheaper than zinc roofs. This surprises a lot of people. Tiles also tend to hold up better over time, which makes them more cost-effective across the life of the building.
Are engineered trusses better than handmade trusses?
Yes. Engineered trusses are precision-designed to accommodate specific structural loads and minimise long-term deflection. They are assembled using laser precision technology and come with an official compliance certificate. Handmade trusses are not built to the same engineering standard and come with none of those assurances.
Can you design a roof from an architect's plan?
Yes, we can. Send us the drawings and we will work from them. We may need some additional details to ensure accuracy, but this is standard practice for any custom design.
Does a zinc roof need insulation?
Yes. All zinc roofs require reflective foil insulation. This acts as both a thermal and vapour barrier. It helps regulate temperature inside the building and prevents condensation forming on the underside of the sheeting, which would otherwise cause rust and water damage over time.
Is it important to know about solar panels before the roof is built?
Yes, and this needs to be planned from the start. The weight and positioning of solar panels must be factored into the roof design to ensure structural integrity and limit long-term deflection. Retrofitting panels onto a roof not originally designed for them can create real structural problems.
